CASA CION: A Story, A Vision

We, the third and fourth generation children of the family of couples, Dr. Braulio “Ka Barang” Agapay Borlaza and Asuncion “Ka Cion” Lavarez Borlaza, who together constructed this house, pay tribute to their legacy of foresight, fortitude and family.
While our dream was to undertake the re-building and re-purposing of this three-story house many years ago, it was only in April 2019 that we started in earnest the “project” which eventually was completed in October, 2020.
We estimated based on available information that the “original” house must be at least 94 years old (circa 1926 when Lolo Barang and Lola Cion were married) and that it has undergone three renovations, the latest was in 1978. Lolo Barang died in 1966 at the age of 68 and Lola Cion passed away in 1999 at the age of 89.
As much as we could, we kept the house in its original state – the structure, contents and "feel" of the home – and with a few reinforcements, updating, and additions for it to last for any more years. For it to be self-sustaining, we decided to convert the house as a “hom-tel” (home-hotel) with commercial spaces.
For its name and branding, we now call this house as Casa Cion (in honor of Lola Cion).
As a hom-tel, Casa Cion is your “home away from home” with “hotel-like” amenities.
As a home, we would like our guests to experience how it is to live in a “circa 1960’s environment” with some updated facilities. As a “green” home, we would like to request our guests to kindly do a “BYOB” (bring your own baon”) like personal hygiene kits. Guests can also bring their own food or purchase them in nearby diners and eateries.
We look forward to your enjoyable and memorable stay in Casa Cion!
Sincerly,
Bobby, Magda (+), Ely, Carlo, Edz, Bella and Bernie, Cynthia, Brian, KR, Inigo, Illy, Javi,
Jolo, Kara, Rocco, Anjo and Mabel.
